Editorial policy

Last updated

This page sets out the rules the PetCoverPro editorial team operates under. It is the policy we apply to every brand review, comparison and buying guide on the site.

1. Independence

Every brand review is written by the editorial team without input from the insurer being reviewed. We do not send drafts to insurers for approval. We do contact insurer press desks for clarification on specific cover questions, and we will quote them by name when we do.

PetCoverPro accepts affiliate commission from insurers (see affiliate disclosure). Commission rates have no effect on whether a brand is reviewed, what score it receives, or where it ranks in a comparison. We have published, and will continue to publish, recommendations of brands that pay us nothing where those brands are the right answer for the reader.

2. Sources

For each brand review, the editorial team reads the current policy wording, the IPID (Insurance Product Information Document), the FCA register entry for the underwriter, and any publicly available financial filings. We then cross-reference customer outcomes using Trustpilot, Google reviews, Reviews.io, and verified posts from independent UK pet-owner forums.

For clinical and regulatory points, we cite primary sources: the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, the Association of British Insurers, gov.uk, NHS-equivalent veterinary guidance bodies and named peer-reviewed journals where appropriate.

3. Veterinary review

Editorial guidance that touches on clinical conditions, claims processes, or the medical reality of pre-existing conditions is reviewed by Dr Avron Taitz, BVSc before publication. The "Vet-reviewed by Dr Avron Taitz" byline appears on every page where this review has taken place.

4. Refresh cadence

Every brand review is checked at least every six months. Buying guides are refreshed at least annually. The "last updated" date on each page reflects the most recent verification by the editorial team. Pages that have changed materially carry a brief change-log note in the page footer.

5. Corrections

If we get something wrong, we want to fix it quickly and visibly. Email corrections@petcoverpro.co.uk with the page URL and the specific claim you are challenging. We aim to respond within 5 working days. Where we make a substantive correction, the page footer carries a dated correction note.

6. Sponsored content

PetCoverPro does not publish sponsored articles or paid placements inside the editorial content. We do not accept paid links and we do not sell guest-post slots. Display advertising, where present, is clearly labelled and is not commissioned by the editorial team.

7. Use of AI

The editorial team uses AI tools as a research and drafting aid. Every published page is fact-checked, edited and signed off by a human editor, and clinical content is reviewed by Dr Avron Taitz, BVSc. We do not publish content that has not been read in full by a human editor.

8. User-supplied information

We do not run a quote engine. PetCoverPro does not collect personal information from readers in order to refer them to insurers. See the privacy policy for what we do and do not collect.
